Garages in Hong-Kong are mostly open air, and this makes for great street photographies. Of course, the spontaneity of a large format shot is questionable, it probably took me 10 minutes altogether to set-up… But I really like this image, and not just because it was my first ever.

On my first time using the large format system I bought earlier this year (with my only lens, a Nikkor 180mm) I wanted to try both street scenes (see yesterday) and studio since in time that’s what I expect to be doing the most. To be honest, I expected neither to come out fine, but I was especially surprised at how the portraits came out. Sharp, which was not a given, and somewhat moody, which I had not planned (this was as quick and dirty as it gets). This image will also be a nice memory for me of the time spent at the workshop with David and Kirsteen. David is leaving Hong-Kong soon and we’re exiting the workshop for good in early December…

I finally got into Large Format photography. Last week I shot four sheets of 4×5, two out in the streets and two in the studio. This is the second image from the street shoot, the spare parts of Hong-Kong mini-buses in the street outside a garage in Wong Chuk Hang.
