Cyanotype on Fabriano Artistico Grana Satinata HP Extra White
I feel like cyanotypes are a key way to express the core purpose of the Human Nature(s) project (to blend humans and natural textures). The first cyanotypes ever printed were plant textures and I feel there’s a natural connection between that process and the subject matter of this project. But I stuggled to get to a place where I’m comfortable with the looks and the replicability of the process. In particular, it proved surprisingly hard to get proper white backgrounds. I finally realised that it had more to do with the paper than with the process itself. This hot press Fabriano Artistico as well as the Bockenford HP White I’ve been using let me achieve true whites whereas other papers don’t. And on a print like this one, true white really delivers something special, I find.
