*Vertical Lines*

Despite the eminently vertical nature of Hong Kong, it’s not that often that you find high points for photography. This is shot through a window on the 7th or 8th floor of Hysan Place in Causeway Bay. I like the alignment of buildings, it’s very Hong Kong.
Sheep Above Tin Hau

As I was taking my daughter to the schoolbus early one morning, I happened to look up to this amazing mottled sky. As soon as she was in the bus, I ran back home, grabbed my camera and wide angle lens and came back to shoot this.
Dusk on Gotham City

Singapore under heavy clouds can look surprisingly like Nolan’s Gotham City at dusk. I shot this from one of the boat buses that cross the city on my way to a work dinner. I am once again stunned at the low-light performance of the Fuji x100s. Can you believe this is 6400 ISO ?
The Three Towers

A few years ago I went to Shanghai on a business trip and took a photo that I entitled The Two Towers (in a not so subtle reference to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings) featuring the Shanghai World Financial Center and the Jin Mao Tower. Going back to a similar location last week, I realised that even if I’d wanted to, I couldn’t do the same shot again: there’s a third tower now, the nearly finished Shanghai Tower. Still, I stabilized my gorillapod, screwed on my ND 400 filter, activated the internal ND 8 filter (for a combined ND 3200) and fired for 30s in plain daylight. I quite like the results.
Shanghai Crépuscule

Shanghai’s Pudong, though not very representative of Shanghai is an impressive architectural mass, and seen from the Bund opposite it’s quite a photo opportunity. I did a whole series that evening, and will be publishing a few more in the coming weeks.
To say that Shanghai is occasionally smoggy would be an understatement. In this shot I tried to capture this near constant haze that encases the city.
