*Shadow Umbrella*
Rolleiflex SL35 + Agfa CT100 (expired)
Slide film has notoriously limited dynamic range, so I wasn’t sure this shot was going to work. But even though I had to work on the shadows in post a bit, it fundamentally shows what I was after: the umbrella hung up on fence wire, and it’s partial shadow. The yellow wall has taken on a green/brown tinge due to the expired slide, but I think it works anyway.
*Derelict Scooter*

This picture is the result of two recent decisions. First, I’m trying to go through my film stash before buying more film. Turns out I have a lot of expired film including slide film. The second decision is to explore more of the backalleys and grimy passageways of Hong Kong. There’s a lot of interesting still like and street photo opportunities there. The green cast that you see on this derelict scooter is an unexpected (and welcome) result of expired slide.

Fuji TX2 (XPAN) + Agfa CT100
On that glorious sunset in Honolulu, I first took a long exposure shot with the x100F, but I thought that alignment of buildings was just perfect for the XPAN. The shot is slightly underexposed which brings out the blues and purples in the Agfa CT100 slide, but ultimately, I think that brings a really different thing to it that I love.
*Weeping for Notre-Dame*

We tend to take so many things for granted that are, in fact, fickle and fragile. I woke up this morning to the news that Notre-Dame had burnt during the night. It makes me more sad than I can say. This is the latest shot of Notre-Dame I took a few weeks ago when I was in Paris. It’s not the best shot, and it certainly doesn’t do this magnificent monument justice, but it is a memory of something that is no more. Let us all enjoy what we have to the fullest : while we might think these things will always be there, that is just not the case.
*Pont des Arts*
Fuji TX2 (XPAN) + Agfa CT 100
I had initially planned to do a long exposure shot of the Pont des Arts to capture the cloudtrails, but when I saw the massive (and ugly) iPhone advert in front of a building being renovated I decided against it. Still, I took an eye level shot, and the Agfa CT 100 slide did its usual magic : great colours in the sky, capturing that violet tinge of the stormy clouds, and the sharp Institut de France on the other side… This works !

It’s not enough to have a beautiful sunset, you need something beyond just the sun and the sea. Here I experimented with radical backlighting. Because I was using slide film, the blacks are very black, but I really like the end result.
