*The Bamboo and the Bike*
Canon A2 + ECN2 250D
I love the bamboo scaffolding that you see nearly everywhere in Hong Kong but what caught my eye here was the projected shadow of the scaffolding and the bike breaking the regularity.
*Chained*
Rolleiflex 3.5 + Lomo 800
I had the chance of shooting a lent Rolleiflex TLR in early December in Mui Wo. I found it a painful experience, the lateral flip and the overhead focus did my head in. I was not happy about the resulting images for the most part, but a couple stood out. I don’t think it’s a camera for me, but I’m happy I could give it a try!
*Closed for business*
Canon A2 + ECN2 250D
Before leaving Hong-Kong I realised that there was a half shot roll in my Canon A2. I had no idea what the film was, so I just took it with me on my last hop to Mui Wo to see my friend Matthew. Turns out it was day rated ECN2 film and it worked really nicely in that lovely sunny day.
*Waterfall Abstraction*
Fuji GW690iii + Fuji Neopan Acros II
When I headed out to the Silvermine Waterfall I had my GW690iii loaded with Acros film and a tripod. I normally aim for exposure times higher than 1/30s and lower than 1s for moving water as I find that anything more tends to make the water look too supernatural for lack of a better word. Metering of the local scene however limited me to 1/30s here, and probably 1/15s or 1/10s would have been better to direct the waterflow. Still, I like the results, verging on the abstract.
*Local Buddha*
Fuji GW690iii + JCH400
On our second trip to the Silvermine Waterfall I spotted this guy who was sitting just under the flow, with his T-Shirt on his head. That was my first shot at the waterfall. Shallow depth of field because the light was fading, but I really quite like the result. I suppose it’s a street shot in nature, of sorts.
*Banyan Roots*
Fuji GW690iii + JCH400
While I often share photos of Hong Kong, they are mostly urban. But rural Hong Kong is a thing too, one that I have not photographed enough. Here are the roots of a massive Banyan tree in Lantau. I didn’t have tripod, so the depth of field is really shallow, but I like how it makes the background jungle on the left of the frame look. Still, probably something to revisit with a tripod.
*Buffaloes at Dawn*
Fuji X100F
Last week the family went for a three day break in Mui Wo. I of course packed my medium format film cameras and woke up for dawn one morning. The water buffaloes were gathered on the beach, and I took several photos of the heard with my Fuji GW690iii which proved to be spectacular failures due to fogging on the lens. Thankfully I backed these shots with the X100F because it allowed me to get closer. There’s a fair amount of noise, but at least the colours and the scene are preserved.
