*Panthéon*

I got some gorgeous weather in Paris for a February month when I was there, and had my XPAN with me at all times. I walked a lot and this shot of the Panthéon in the 5th arrondissement was one of my favourites.

One of the fascinating things you still see in China is all these little neighborhood jobs that have disappeared in the west. Best of all, due to the ambient heat, they’re all set up outside, on the sidewalk. A boon for photographers!
*Canton Lights*

The most famous Canton Lights are of course those of the Canton Tower at night, but my 2 1/2 weekend there didn’t give me an opportunity to be at the right place and the right time to capture that. Instead I roamed the streets by day and by dusk and captured different kinds of night lights. Love the neon vibe here.

When you shoot long exposures of a still body of water, you get a perfectly smooth and often reflective surface. But when you shoot a long exposure of waves, you get patterns and eddies. One interesting look that I definitely have not explored enough is this misty look that you get from a shortish long exposure (here 5s).

The Church of the Trinité near St Lazare is one of my favourite Parisian monuments. I always felt it had a little bit of a moghul palace look, something Indian in the spire. Parts of it have been covered in wraps for years now, but this photo was taken in my early days of film photography in 2012, when it was still visible.

There are certain cities that can be expressed through specific visual elements that you know everyone will associate with said cities. London’s red buses are one such visual clue to where you are, so imagine when there’s 6 buses in front of you and you have colour film loaded in the XPAN…

One thing that I find fascinating with religion in Asia is how much a part of everyday life it is. People will stop by on their way home for a quick prayer. In Europe, it’s so much more ceremonial and occasional. Anyway, it was interesting to capture how small one feels when standing in front of the huge lantern at Sensoji.
*Pont des Arts*

I had initially planned to do a long exposure shot of the Pont des Arts to capture the cloudtrails, but when I saw the massive (and ugly) iPhone advert in front of a building being renovated I decided against it. Still, I took an eye level shot, and the Agfa CT 100 slide did its usual magic : great colours in the sky, capturing that violet tinge of the stormy clouds, and the sharp Institut de France on the other side… This works !

I had a meeting near Fitroy Square in London, and since I was a little early I decided to check out said square. The facades were very British (well, very posh British) and as I prepared to shoot (perfect alignment for the XPAN), this guy walks out in a white t-shirt and starts clicking on his phone. Perfect.

How the light hits a particular scene, especially on a sunny day, changes the scene complementely. What first attracted my eye here was the row of scooters (they look like guns!) and then of course the bearded guy engrossed in his sports newspaper…
